About the Designer - Laurie Ann Whitaker
Crocheting by Carol Ann’s Daughter • Hooks by Laurie Ann
Laurie Ann Whitaker is the creative heart behind both Crocheting by Carol Ann’s Daughter and Hooks by Laurie Ann—two brands, one artist, and a whole lot of imagination. What started as a spark from her sister-in-law quickly turned into a self-taught journey of creativity, growth, and passion. Over time, crocheting became more than just a hobby—it became a space where Laurie could fully express herself, unwind, and bring her ideas to life.
Laurie describes her style as unique, fun, and creative—and that couldn’t be more accurate. Her inspiration comes from everywhere: a photo, a stuffed animal in a store, beloved characters, or even a feeling. From playful series like Looney Tunes, Care Bears, Betty Boop, Winnie the Pooh, Elvis, and Selena, her work reflects a joyful mix of nostalgia and originality. Each crochet hook she creates is truly one of a kind, designed to stand out and bring personality into every project.
Using materials like polymer clay, lightweight elements, glitter, and resin, Laurie carefully handcrafts each hook, starting with a base and refining every detail until it’s just right. While patterns can take several days to perfect, her hooks vary depending on their intricacy—each one a small piece of art. She also happily takes custom requests, working closely with customers to create something meaningful and personal.
Crocheting, for Laurie, is more than a craft—it’s her calm, her safe haven, and her creative energy space. It’s where she feels most at home. Her business name, Crocheting by Carol Ann’s Daughter, is a heartfelt tribute to her mother, who shared that same creative spirit through sewing and making. That legacy lives on in every piece Laurie creates.
When people use her hooks or patterns, Laurie hopes they feel comfort—the same sense of peace and joy she experiences while creating them. Her customers aren’t just customers; they’re part of her crochet community, and they mean the world to her.
A few fun things about Laurie: she has a twin, prefers ice water over coffee or tea while crocheting, and some of her favorite creations include her Converse shoe hooks and her Kiss-themed hooks—especially meaningful since the band is a favorite of her husband.
Having officially started her business four years ago, Laurie continues to grow and create simply because she loves it. With countless ideas and new series already in the works, she’s excited to keep sharing her creativity with others who appreciate unique, handcrafted pieces.
Her goal? To be known for designs that are different, imaginative, and full of personality—made for anyone who loves crochet.
And if she could say one thing to you:
You’re not just a customer—you’re valued, and you’re part of her crochet community.
